The Field of Mars Environmental Education Centre is one of twenty two Environmental Education Centres operated by the NSW Department of Education to help students and teachers with fieldwork, environmental education and education for sustainability.
The centre caters for all NSW Department of Education schools K-12 in the Sydney metropolitan area. Students outside of the metropolitan area are catered for via Connected Classrooms technology. The centre offers a variety of programs which can be tailored to fit the needs of your students and the curriculum. Programs can be conducted at the Field of Mars Reserve, Buffalo Creek Reserve, by video conference or we can come to you.
The Field of Mars EEC also provides professional learning workshops for teachers in the areas of environmental education and sustainability.
The centre can be used as a venue for staff meetings, teacher professional learning workshops and student workshops.
The Field of Mars Reserve is the largest bushland reserve in the Ryde Municipality. It consists of a eucalypt-covered hillside and urban creeks. Adjacent to the reserve is the historic Field of Mars Cemetery. Across Pittwater Rd is Buffalo Creek Reserve which contains a mangrove wetland area and Sugarloaf Point, a eucalypt-covered hilltop adjoining the Lane Cove River.
